It is undeniably heartbreaking that after all the great memories, flying to places you’ve never been, and doing the advocacy you are living for your entire life, it is without a doubt the hardest thing to part with is the crown you withheld on your palm and wore atop your head as you bear the title of being the queen of the universe. That’s why Pia Wurtzbach happen to sob backstage during the Miss Universe held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last January 30. Pia was spotted before the coronation and her last walk onstage as the Miss Universe, choked in between tears of joy and sadness.
While we see her walk with all smiles and glowing glamour onstage as she waved goodbye to the people and all who witnessed the said event as she part with the glory she brought to the country, little did we know that the former Miss Universe went a little emotional before stepping onstage to pass down the crown to the new titleholder, Miss France. Caryn Leigh, a NYC-based photographer, shared a snapshot of the Filipina beauty queen moments on her Instagram account, with a caption:
“My favorite backstage #MissUniverse moment: Pia getting choked up before passing on the crown.”
After being captured the moment, Pia was back and composed to her jolly self as she went onstage and shared a joke with the most controversial host who made her one of the most, well-known Miss Universe titleholders after he committed a mistake during Pia’s coronation, the African-American host Steve Harvey. She handed over a pair of glasses so as to ensure that the incident that happened before will never be committed again—taking it as a pun or a joke forever written all over Steve Harvey’s name.
She, that even there was pain on her eyes, was all smiles as always as she wears the crown off and places it atop the new Miss Universe titleholder as the beginning of a new reign of beauty with purpose.
