Maxene Magalona Drew Praises For Her Role In 'Maalaala Mo Kaya' MMK

Actress Maxene Magalona starred in her first ever ''Maalala Mo Kaya'' (MMK) episode, which earned praise online for portraying the struggles and hardships of working as a nurse in the country.

In the episode of the longest-running drama anthology aired Saturday, Magalona played the role of a rapping Filipina nurse named Fatima Palma.

In the episode, Palma's video of her entertaining a patient in a hospital through rapping was uploaded online and went viral.

Palma was reluctant at first to pursue the profession, as her passion lies in rapping. However, after he was convinced by his father to take the board exams, Palma eventually began to fall in love with her work.

Despite the challenges such as not receiving her pay on time, Palma opted to stay in the country to help Filipinos rather than chasing greener pastures abroad.

Several netizens dubbed the episode as an "eye-opener" for the national government and local hospitals regarding the conditions many of the country's nurses have to endure.

It helped launch the episode's official hashtag "MMKNurseRapper" to among the top 3 worldwide trends on the microblogging site.

Magalona, the daughter of late OPM icon Francis Magalona, was also active online, thanking several of her fans who said she was "perfect" for the role of Palma.

Magalona's foray into MMK continued the series of successful acting debuts on the drama anthology. The episodes starring Maris Racal and Manolo Pedrosa, contestants of the recently concluded season of "Pinoy Big Brother," similarly trended online.
